How to identify years and options. The '70-'72 Trans Am has a single stripe over the hood/top/deck-lid while the '73 has the bird on the hood with no top/deck-lid stripes. The Trans Am model has the front and rear air dams, the front fender vent, and the "shaker" hood. The Formula has the Ram Air hood with dual air scoops in the front of the hood. The only noticeable cosmetic change for the 1972 model was replacing the square mesh grill on the '70-'71 with a new hex mesh grill. In '73, the rare SD-455 option for the Formula had the "shaker" hood vice the Ram Air hood. A total of 43 Formulas received the SD-455 option. |
